Renelux supplies top quality anthracite, which has 92% carbon content - among the highest for premium quality anthracites. It also has a low level of impurities, such as sulphur, phosphorus, nitrogen, and others. The equipment and technologies used by our miners at the production sites make it possible to wash anthracite grades from 150 mcm up to 80 mm, and to produce 0-13 mm grade, high quality anthracite.
Our anthracite, prized for its high carbon content, minimal impurities, and substantial calorific value, finds primary application in the metallurgical industry. It serves as a crucial component in the production of electrodes for both ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy. Beyond that, high quality anthracite plays a vital role in the cement, sugar, and chemical sectors.
In the realm of ferrous metallurgy, carbon-containing materials—such as anthracite and coals for PCI—stand as irreplaceable raw inputs. These materials act as essential reducing agents, binding oxygen within raw materials and maintaining the requisite process temperatures. Remarkably, anthracite significantly mitigates the impact of metallurgy on climate change by emitting far less CO2 than metallurgical coke when employed in blast furnaces for iron smelting.
Replacing one million tons of metallurgical coke with an equivalent amount of anthracite results in a 20 to 40 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across the entire production chain—from coal mining to iron smelting—equivalent to 0.4 to 0.8 million tons of CO2. This shift underscores the critical role anthracite plays in environmental sustainability within the metallurgical domain.
